Skunks

The are three species in the municipality:

Mephitis mephitis

Mephitis macroura

Conepatus mesoleucus

In the photo is shown a specimen of the first one.

They differenciate by the form of the white patch in the back:

In memphitis, it forms a V with the vertix in the head, as in the photo.

In macrocura there are variations in the white patch, which doesn't have a V form.

In mesoleucos the whole back is white.

Badger

Taxidea taxus

It is an animal with a heavy appearance, as it walks swaying.

It's wide and low body gives it also a heavy appearance.

The legs are short: the front ones are armed with strong and long claws, up to 3 inches long, while the rear legs are shorter.

The hair is rough and yellowish gray colored, except by a white band along the cheeks.

It also has another white strip extending from the tip of the nose, along the middle of the face, and ending between the shoulders.
