Geococcyx californianus

Varies in size between 1.5 Ft, to close to 2 ft. It is brown, with a greenish shine. Also has black and white spots above. It has a brown underside, with brown spots in the breast.

It is also distinguished by it's slender body; a large, thick bill and crest. Long tail which it raises constantly. Ir runs very fast.

It's song, contrary to popular opinion that it is a "bip, bip," in reality is a series of dovelike low notes, like "coo, coo".
