Aguililla real

Buteo regalis

It is the largest hawk in the region. It goes through two color stages:

    • Light phase: Ferruginous above, and whitish below, with a spot of ferruginous feathers in the leg. The primary feathers are black.
    • Dark phase (rarely): Dark ferruginous above and below. Whitish tail. The legs covered with feathers.

It's voice has a long and descending "Kriaaah," with notes that sound like: "krag".
