Education
In education, in 1975 the Nogales Technological Institute begins operations, being the first higher education institution within the Municipality. It offered Electronics Engineering, Industrial Production Engineering, as well as Industrial Production Engineering, and Bachelor in Business Administration, while in 1978 Civil Engineering, Industrial Relations, and Tourism Administration. By 1985 Engineering in Computer Systems is added. Then, in 1987 the first Master Degree is added: Computing Sciences. Today (2007), Bachelor in Administration and Accounting, Engineering in Mecatronics, Industrial, Electronics, Civil, as well as Computing systems. Besides this, Master in Computing systems, as well as Industrial Administration.
Also, other higher education schools also opened: CETIS 128 (Junior and High School), CONALEP (Technical Professional), etc. which plan to prepare students in technical and administrative disciplines.
In 1999 the Technological University of Nogales opens, and more recently the Universidad del Desarrollo Profesional (Professional Development University), as well as the Cobach Nogales (High School), and in 2004 the Nogales Campus of the University of Sonora, and more recently the Universidad del Valle de Mexico.
However, the educational requirements for Nogales haven't yet been totally covered. According to the latest Census data (2000), 67.4% of the Municipality population older than 12 years finished Grammar School. However this is only a partial indicator of reality, as 67% of the population older than 15 years, haven't gone through High School.
