1841 to 1843
Beginnings of the Rancho Los Nogales

And life continues, now under different parameters. Again in 1841, Elias asks:

"the remeasure of the lands of the Rancho La Casita, as well as the surplus lands and empty spaces we need"

Casita is measured, and it is ordered to make a separate file for the empty lands being asked. These lands will eventually become Los Nogales de Elias. The name of Los Nogales is given to the place, thanks to some walnut trees (Nogales in Spanish), that grow along the margins of the Arroyo.

As the first step, the measurement of the land is undertaken by Don Francisco Navamuel, starting his operation from the North Central limits of Casita (located in today´s Encinas Pass), and measuring 340 Cuerdas (14,205 meters) Northward:

"along the road that goes North to the Tubac Presidio. This measurement ended in the road, in a high meseta where a wide canyon ends, coming down from the Pajarito Mountains"

That is in Nogales, Arizona, in Mariposa Canyon near the confluence of Mariposa and Interstate 10, where he orders the establishment of the Northern boundary of the ranch, adding that:

"the limits of Calabazas are some one thousand steps beyond, in a high hill that falls beyond the Canyon"

That is near Mt. Benedict. Thereafter, another 22 Cuerdas (919 Meters) are measured East, and 200 Cuerdas (8,356 Meters) West, from both the Northern and Southern limits of the land, comprising a surface of 7 and a half Sitios with 2 Caballerías (some 13,200 Hectares), which are valued at $113 with 1 Real and 10 Grains.

January 7, 1843, Elias buys the land and is given title. He will build later the houses of his ranch near today´s overpass towards Patagonia Road, within Nogales, Arizona.
