San Xavier del Bac in an old photo. In 1776 the Franciscan Juan Bautista Belderrain arrived here, and began the building of the temple although he died in 1790, and his successor, Fr. Juan Bautista Llorens would dedicate the temple in 1797. The right tower was never finished.

Altar de San Xavier

The main altar of San Xavier del Bac. Recently, the whole church was restored by the same restorers who did the work at the Sixtine Chapel, and the church can be seen in itīs whole splendor.

San Xavier is located South of Tucson, Arizona. By following Interstate 19 South of Tucson, after crossing the bridge over the Santa Cruz River, west of it you will see the temple which you can visit by following the signs at the next exit.
