The Magdalena churches in 1864. You can see at the right of the image the ruins of the church where Father Kino was buried after he went to dedicate it, and fell ill during the ceremonies. This temple through the years would continue deteriorating until it disappeared. Engraving taken from Ross Browne.
The Magdalena temple today. It was dedicated in 1832, and is the same as the one shown in the engraving from 1864. It was remodeled in the late 1950's.
Each year, thousands of pilgrims attend to venerate the image of St Ignatius of Loyola during the festivities of St. Francis, which culminate on October 4th, a date which in the Catholic liturgy St Francis of Assisi is venerated. Photo by Alberto Suarez Barnett
